Francis Farmar - Painter in oils, acrylic and watercolour |
Francis Farmar was born in 1948 and brought up in Surrey. Drawing and painting was a passionate interest from an early age. Educated at Eton College (1961-66), he won the school Drawing Prize. He trained in Florence at Simi's Academy before going to St Martin's School of Art, London and the West of England College of Art Bristol.
From 1971, Francis worked for the auctioneers Christies, St James, London, first as Assistant in the Impressionists and Modern Picture department and latterly as Director of Modern British and Irish pictures.
Leaving in 1986, he moved to Findhorn in Morayshire, Scotland to return to painting, whilst at the same time acting as an independent art consultant. He moved back south to live on the Wiltshire/Dorset border in 1993. Francis divides his time between his studio in the country, London and travelling abroad.
