Francis Farmar is a painter of places. These may be rural, urban or maritime - British or overseas - but in every case he tries to encapsulate the spirit of his subject.

He gives a contemporary flavour to 'prospect' pictures, a tradition which stretches back to the Seventeenth Century, appearing to fly above the landscape - bending and stretching it in order to describe more than can be seen from a single earth-bound viewpoint.
